Iraq Drilling Co (IDC) is back in force and seems on the way to turn itself into a success story by teaming up with the big ones. After the short setback following the failed joint venture with Mesopotamia Petroleum, it has finally found the magic formula to play the leading role in the gigantic drilling effort that will take place across the Iraqi oil fields over the next few years.

Iraqi Officials Replaced In Political Move

Two of Iraq’s top oil officials have been replaced by the country’s new oil minister, in a move widely regarded as politically motivated.
The changes represent the second major shake up of the oil ministry since Ibrahim Bahr al-Uloum was appointed as minister in May, Baghdad sources told International Oil Daily Thursday.
Nabil Lamuza, director general of planning and studies, was replaced by an outsider, Fayad Hassan Nemeh. Nemeh, who worked for the last 15 years in an engineering company manufacturing gas cylinders, was appointed earlier this week as director general in the minister’s office, before being named as head of planning.

Newly Appointed Iraqi Oil Minister Outlines Priorities

Iraq’s newly appointed interim oil minister, Thamer al-Ghadban, aims to restructure his ministry and the companies under its umbrella, and to launch a number of long delayed oil development projects, he told Energy Intelligence Briefing on Tuesday, in his first interview after being sworn in. Al-Ghadban was named as part of the new interim government that will take over most of the power from the coalition occupation authorities from Jul. 1. He and other ministers were sworn in on Tuesday in Baghdad, following days of haggling between the US-led coalition, the United Nations and the US-appointed Iraqi Governing Council.
